#fifty eight

I've just completed
make number fifty eight

Have to say
"I LOVE IT"

Its the Marie Shawlette
from this pattern
by The Little Bee

I used the Cascade wool
leftover from
the fern shawl
(make number thirty three)

I'm not keeping it,
it will be given as a gift.

As I'm typing this
I'm listening to
Bob Harris Sunday on BBC Radio 2.
Such a great show,
he plays excellent music.

My songs for today
are an oldie and a newie
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
&
Another Million Miles by The Wallflowers

He played them both,
both fabulous!

Love, sister is just a kiss away............

#fifty seven

Make number fifty seven
is a string and stick "star".

It is made with Nutscene coloured string
woven around wooden skewers.

It took about ten minutes to make
whilst waiting for my tea to cook.

I was inspired by this website
on a link on Pinterest

I'd like to try this again
and put more thought into them
but its fine for a first attempt.

It is time to dig out
the summer books.

Yes really, I know its grey
and a bit chilly today
but you have to read them sometime
and there's no point waiting
for the sun to shine!

Make number fifty six
is a bookmark.

A cyanotype print
of a sprig of lavender,
perfect for a bedtime read.

My favourite summer reads are:-
Hens Dancing by Raffaella Barker
Summertime by Raffaella Barker
The Summer Book by Tove Jansson

#fifty five

Some may argue that
number fifty five
isn't really a "make"
as it was Mother Nature
that did the hard work.

Excuse me!!!!
I've put weeks of TLC
into growing this
hydrangea cutting
and am claiming it as my own effort.

It is a cutting from my neighbour's
beautiful hydrangea bush
which I placed in a jar of water
and have spent weeks
watching for signs
of root growth.

When they finally came through
they've rapidly grown thick and strong.

So yesterday was potting up time.

I only had enough compost at the moment
for a little pot, but it means
I can still keep it covered with a plastic bag
for a few days until it settles in.

In a week or two I'll move it on
into a bigger pot with new compost.

Fingers crossed it will grow and grow
and I can enjoy the beautiful flowers.

#fifty four

Number fifty four
is a Mermaid's Shawl

Knitted with King Cole Galaxy DK wool,
shade Ocean

Using this pattern on Ravelry

It was knitted with panels of garter stitch
and panels of a lace pattern
in a sort of curved funnel shape.

I love the colour of the wool
and the sequins
give it a lovely sparkly
underwater feel

Definitely perfect for a mermaid

#fifty three

Its Saturday
and the afternoon
has ran away with itself!

A quiet day today
after I had a lovely
time yesterday
when my friends
Maureen and Michelle
came to visit.

So I spent the time
listening to some radio programmes
and trying a little bit of embroidery

I am really enjoying
stitching at the moment
so you might see a few more of these.

My song for today is
Saturday Night
by The Eagles

"Seems like at dream now it was so long ago........."

#fifty two

Number fifty two
is a keyring

The house and heart beads
are from
Bo Hulley Beads

Just waiting for a new key
to hang from it

I finished reading
The Gracekeepers
by
Kristy Logan
last night.
I really enjoyed it,
haunting and strange
and sad

#fifty one

After a fortnight
of watching Wimbledon
I spent a couple of hours
this afternoon
catching up with some TV programmes
I had recorded.

A perfect opportunity
to get out a hook and
a ball of leftover yarn
and
make a few coasters

You are all invited for tea!

Am enjoying a BBC4 programme
about flamenco,
the dance and the music
and its history and heritage.

#fifty

Hurray!
Am halfway to my goal
of making
100 things in 2015.

I'm a little behind
but am sure
I will catch up soon

Number fifty
is some flowers
for Yarndale 2015 at Skipton.

They will be displayed
then sold
in aid of
The Alzheimer's Society

(PS one of the flowers is a "cheat" as it is actually #31)

#forty nine

Number forty nine
for a project about
lost love

Slugs and snails.....

"Sugar and spice
and all things nice,
that's what little girls are made of

Slugs and snails
and puppy dog tails
that's what little boys are made of"

I remember that rhyme
from being a little girl
and taunting my brother with it
Hahaha!!  Served him right!!!

Anyway, an update
on proceedings
in the yard.

I got up at 4.30am this morning
for a drink
and went out into the yard.
I love that time of day
when its light
and so quiet and still.
I spotted another
pesky slug, a huge one,
and sent him on his way
through the air and off to visit
another home on the Grove.
Hopefully the Honesty
will now survive.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Another positive
is that yesterday I noticed
that the hydrangea cutting
that has sat in a jar of water
on my kitchen table for weeks
has started
to grow roots

And yes, these little things
do excite me!!!!

#forty eight

I feel as if
the days are running away
with themselves
at the moment.

There's been so much happening lately,
house jobs, cleaning, birthdays,
sewing for a friend,
Glastonbury and Wimbledon on TV
and the British Grand Prix too.

I've got a little behind with
my makes so number forty eight
feels a little bit out of time.

I made a pillow/cushion cover.

I started out on 21st June - Summer Solstice
and made a cyanotype print
with plant cuttings from my pots
and some stems picked at Tynemouth.

The print developed in the Solstice sun
and was even rinsed a little
in the summer rain
whilst hanging out to dry.

Then I picked out some of the detail
with some basic stitched embroidery
and added a sun and "Solstice".

In the bottom corner
I sewed a little bird patch
from the pack from
the wonderful Hens Teeth

So number forty eight
is my summer solstice cover
and is awaiting a special new home!

My plants are all growing
beautifully though not many are in bloom
just yet.

The only problem I've had is with
the Honesty I grew from seed
which has proved to be
especially delicious to
the naughty slug.

Luckily I spotted him
creeping across the yard
early this morning
and banished him
from my property by catapulting him
over the wall
hopefully never to be seen again!

Since watching Glastonbury
(thank you BBC for great coverage)
I've been a bit obsessed with
Florence and the Machine
so today's song
is Rabbit Heart (Raise it up)

#forty seven

This make is a needlecase
for my friend Jane's birthday

I crocheted the main cover
and added trimmings, buttons and a photograph.

The printed fabric piece on the front
is from a bundle bought from Hen's Teeth
I LOVE Viv's work, she is so talented.

The red heart bead inside is from
Bo Hulley Beads
and the large button on the back
is Clod and Pebble

Reunited

This is so beautiful

    True love never dies

#forty six

Number forty six

A crocheted hat
to be donated to
the cancer ward
at the local hospital

It was half made up/half pattern
from a cotton yarn.

Luckily I popped out
into the yard and photographed it
before the storm arrived

Loads of thunder - love it!

Somehow today I managed
to put my dress on inside out
and didn't realise until
my mother pointed it out at lunchtime.
Its bad luck to turn it
so have had to wear it this way all day!
